Grace within Presence

“Wherever you go, there you are” ~ Jon Kabat-Zinn

Whether it be a tropical jungle or a snowy city, somewhere in between or beyond, there is no escaping our internal world. At least not for very long.

There is incredible discomfort at this time. There is fear, confusion, pain, desperation. Perhaps there is also neutrality, numbness, boredom, and mundanity. And maybe there is joy, happiness, relaxation, love, and pleasure in the mix.

Being present with all that is occurring right now can be monumentally challenging. I applaud all of you for doing the best that you can every single moment. And I want to say that you are incredible.

Being present is important, but not to the detriment of our well-being. Within my own life I have noticed that when things feel like they are too much I have a tendency to self-criticize, blame, and shame myself for not being able to fully sit with it.

Thankfully, I also notice how unhelpful this self-ridicule is.

Here I am. Here you are. Here. In this together. Here, with all that we had going on before this world-shift began. Here, with all that we continue to carry.

It is my hope that we do not lose sight of the fact that we deserve to give ourselves the utmost grace and gentleness right now. As if we are speaking to a toddler who is struggling and needs some extra love and support.

It is my hope that we remember, “Wherever you go, there you are,” and we hold space for exactly where we are at this moment with as much self-love as we can cultivate.

We are all doing our best. We are all enough. We are all deserving of grace within the present moment.
